Billable

Latent tuberculosis

This code does not map to an HCC category in any model (V28, V24, ESRD, RxHCC).

What This Code Means

A person who has been infected with tuberculosis bacteria but does not have active disease; the infection is dormant and may never progress to active TB.

Coding Tips

  • Latent TB is confirmed by positive tuberculin skin test (TST) or interferon-gamma release assay (IGRA) with normal chest X-ray
  • Document whether the patient is on or eligible for preventive therapy (isoniazid) to reduce progression risk

Excludes 1 — Do NOT code together

  • nonspecific reaction to cell mediated immunity measurement of gamma interferon antigen response without active tuberculosis (R76.12)
  • nonspecific reaction to tuberculin skin test without active tuberculosis (R76.11)
