What This Code Means

The tricuspid valve in the heart is not closing properly, allowing blood to leak backward into the upper right chamber of the heart. This condition is not caused by rheumatic fever and can develop from various other heart problems or conditions.

• •Verify the tricuspid insufficiency is documented as nonrheumatic; if rheumatic origin is documented, use code I07.1 instead
