Clinical Significance

E13.01 represents the most severe presentation of hyperosmolar hyperglycemic state in other specified (secondary) diabetes, with progression to coma. This is a medical emergency with high mortality rates requiring intensive care unit admission, aggressive fluid resuscitation, insulin therapy, and close electrolyte monitoring.
