BillableOther psychoactive substance dependence with other psychoactive substance-induced disorder
HCC Category Mapping
What This Code Means
A person is dependent on one or more psychoactive substances (drugs or alcohol) and has developed a separate mental health disorder caused by the use of a different psychoactive substance. This code is used when the substance causing the dependency and the substance causing the additional mental health problem are different.
Coding Tips
- •Carefully document which specific substance(s) are involved in the dependence versus which substance caused the additional disorder, as this distinction is critical for accurate coding
- •Use the 5th character to specify the type of induced disorder (e.g., anxiety, sleep disorder, sexual dysfunction) and the 6th character to indicate remission status when applicable
Clinical Significance
Other psychoactive substance dependence with other substance-induced disorder is a residual category for substance-induced complications that do not fit into the specific categories (anxiety, sexual dysfunction, sleep, mood, psychosis). This may include substance-induced obsessive-compulsive disorder, neurocognitive changes, or other behavioral disturbances. Accurate coding is important because it captures the full complexity of substance dependence beyond standard presentations.
Documentation Requirements
- ✓Identification of the specific psychoactive substance(s) causing dependence
- ✓Documentation of dependence criteria met
- ✓Clear description of the specific induced disorder that does not fit other F19.2X categories
- ✓Provider determination that the disorder is causally linked to substance use
- ✓Temporal relationship between substance use and onset of the induced disorder
- ✓Treatment plan addressing both the dependence and the induced disorder
